About us
Whinberry Gifts was set up with a vision in mind.
This vision was to promote sustainable products and support local people in Shropshire, enabling them to work in a way and in an environment that suits them.
Being proud Salopians (Shropshire born and bred) we are passionate about our stunning countryside and are driven to do our bit for future generations.
We have brought together a team of local people with specialist skills and a wealth of sewing experience and our 100% recycled cashmere ‘Whinberry’ branded gloves are our first offering. My wife is super chuffed as she has Raynaud’s syndrome and loves these gloves so much!
We strive to support and promote local people and local businesses and we use
sustainable, recycled materials wherever possible, thereby reducing waste as
much as we can.
We are joining the slow fashion revolution by lovingly breathing new life into
preloved 100% cashmere jumpers and saving them from going straight to landfill
after their first life.
Join us in our vision to shop sustainably !
What is a Whinberry?
‘Whinberry’ is the local name here in Shropshire for a berry that grows on the beautiful
Shropshire hills. You may have heard of their other names, whortleberries, blaeberries, or bilberries, their local names from other regions in Britain. The berries are smaller than blueberries
and packed with lots of goodness, like the local businesses we support!
Historically, whinberries were used as a dye, and the flavour burst has been used in jams,
puddings (especially crumbles) – delicious! Packed with antioxidants,
whinberries are really good for your health, but are a labour of love to pick
as they are fiddly and far too easy to eat before they make it home!
Thank you for reading about us and our story, we hope that we will be bringing you other
local products really soon! Keep subscribed to be updated, subscribe button below!
